The mission would arrive at 16 Psyche in January 2026 and spend at least 21 months mapping and studying the asteroid’s unique properties. NASA already has plans to do just that as part of its Discovery Program, with an orbiter set to launch from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center in August 2022. While Hubble has been able to get clear images of 16 Psyche, only a visit to its surface will reveal what it’s really like. Tracy Becker, a planetary scientist and author of the paper, says the asteroid is likely the leftover core of a planet that never properly formed because it was hit by objects in our solar system and effectively lost its mantle and crust. What makes it special is that, unlike most asteroids that are either rocky or icy, 16 Psyche is made almost entirely of iron and nickel, a study published this week in The Planetary Science Journal shows. 16 Psyche was actually discovered in 1852, but this is the first time scientists can get a closer look.

What this means is that instead of going through your structure, going through your process, explaining all the different things you found, and coming to a conclusion, McKinsey wants you to start the conclusion with, “Here is what I recommend that we do.” It should be tiered in order of importance. In a McKinsey case interview, it’s important that when you come to the conclusion, you are answer-first. They might be really important when you push into them with further data analysis. Might seem a little bit left field, or right field, they are not core. They call it, “Second Level Insights.” And recently they’ve even been talking about “Third Level Insights,” which really are just better second level insights. Next, it’s really important that when you’re in the room with McKinsey, you remember this: they are looking for one magic thing. So if you’re practicing for a McKinsey case interview as well as other interviews, you want to make sure that you’re not just practicing this way, but that this is just a tweak that you make when you’re about ready to walk into the room for McKinsey. Remember, this is only appropriate in McKinsey. When you get a brainstorming question, take 30 seconds to identify a couple of areas, and then come back with a more structured answer. Then come back and walk through your structure as well as your calculations. So when you get a math problem that seems pretty challenging, recap for it, and then take a minute to plan your structure & approach. In McKinsey interviews, you can take time in between each of the questions to prepare an answer. And you have to make sure that you’re ready for that, so when you’re practicing, you need to practice rounding only to the ones place. That’s different than other top firms, like BCG or Bain. They care about your calculation prowess. And they are not only interested in insights. Why? When a McKinsey interviewer comes into the room, they have a packet of information that has exact answers calculated on it. Not to the decimal place, but to the ones place in a McKinsey Interview. You need to solve your math to the ones place. And if you’re able to key-in on areas where you can identify better ways to improve your structure inside the case, you’re going to perform better on the interview as a whole. Across the board, McKinsey is the most structured firm out of all of them. organization, very clear linear thought processes, the entire way through your McKinsey insight driving. They even mean structure in your conclusion. They mean structure for your analysis, they mean structure in your notes, they mean structure in your brainstorming. And when they’re talking about structure, they don’t just mean structure at the beginning of the case. And admittedly, McKinsey case interviews have a reputation for going the deepest, and having the hardest math, in all the case interview universe.
